I have a number of friends with their children graduating high school and needing to choose what medical schoool they want to attend. I don’t feel like diving into what medical school is best but I did think I could bring up a different question. What medical forum for students is the best one out there? As you go through years of university what place online has the most active and understanding community to get you involved?
After doing some research these are the ones I believe to be the most active and popular. Most are not run by a single college but designed for students from a number of different schools across the world. It’s nice to have a different perspective than just your own local colleagues.
I am setting up a poll for my audience to vote and let me know which forum they believe is the best. The forum that receives the most votes will receive a full interview featured on this site highlighting the story behind how the forum was started and how they continue to make it widly succussful. They will also receive a badge in my right navigation for 1 year that says “Most Popular Medical Student Forum” ad that is valued at $500. Feel free to leave a comment if you feel I left out a significant leader in this space. This contest will run through Febraury 28th, 2013. Here is a quick list and how many pages of content they have created:
MedicalGeek.com 98,600 pages
MedicalTalk.net 263,000 pages
MedStudentsOnline.com.au 21,500 pages
NewMediaMedicine.com 215,000 pages
StudentDoc.com 112,000 pages
StudentDoctor.net 8,600,000 pages
TheStudentRoom.co.uk 12,100,000 pages
The poll is sorted alphabetically, look forward to seeing who is your favorite!

Quick question? Is the winner only selected based on votes or are there any other criteria going into this contest?

James, The winner for this particular poll is based on votes. They have until February 28th, 2013 to gain as many votes as possible. Then the winner will be selected and announced to the world.

StudentDoctor.net is the best in the world hands down, I know we are going to win this one and I appreciate all of the time and effort the moderators have taken to help all of us there!!

Willis, No question that StudentDoctor.net is ahead for now BUT theStudentRoom.co.uk is a much bigger forum and I wouldn’t count the Brits out on this one…. I honestly expect to have thousands of votes in this poll so 30 votes seems decent but it’s only the beginning.

The only two large sites on here (SDN and the British one) serve entirely different purposes and audiences. Its not like premed knowledge is applicable between continents. Obviously, SDN will win…….

I am in the UK and believe that TheStudentRoom.co.uk is better than any forum the United States could offer….. of course, we are Britain. There are a million reasons why the UK’s medical students are so much better than the states, but we will not go into that here….

Britain, we kicked your butts from 1776-1783, and we aren’t afraid to do it again.
Regards,
SDN

SDN and TSR are both great but they only really apply to their own countries. It really just depends which country you’re applying to.I have to add though TSR is much more user friendly, SDN needs updating.

Nicola, TSR is a little more user friendly….. agreed.

I’m a moderator on TheStudentRoom and it’s great to see that what we do is appreciated. Makes all the discussions and work keeping resources up to date worth while. Such a great atmosphere on the site in my opinion, thanks to all of those that voted
